History The Young Poland Foundation was created in 2003 to meet real need among the young people of Eastern Europe. These youth are faced with formidable economic and social challenges as their nation turns from a grinding, post-communist economy toward a new era of international commerce and competition. |
| The Foundation?s President, Agnieszka M. Badger, received financial and social support herself from a generous couple to enable her to acquire her undergraduate and MBA degrees at BYU. Organizing the Young Poland Foundation is one way she has chosen to pass the assistance she received on to others. |
Together with the other founders of Young Poland, Ms. Badger understood a grass-roots effort by people of modest means could do a great deal to contribute to the education of needy students from the developing world. The Young Poland Foundation is committed to the principle that one need not be wealthy to make a charitable difference in the world. Therefore, while corporate donations are welcomed, the Young Poland Foundation relies primarily on contributions by individual households to carry on its charitable endeavors. top home |

The Foundation currently has a three-member Board of Directors, with Agnieszka M. Badger serving as President. The organization also consists of two Fundraising Directors, for the east and west coasts, and fundraising volunteers. Over the next year, the Foundation anticipates expanding its Board of Directors commensurate with the organization?s rapid growth. top home |

How can I make a difference? To support its charitable endeavors, the Young Poland Foundation relies primarily on donations by individuals who care about its efforts to expand opportunity in Eastern Europe. Each donation goes directly to the support of deserving students, selected based on the likelihood of their making a positive difference in their families and communities. Why is the scholarship named for Eugene England? Throughout his career, Eugene England demonstrated a sincere, ongoing interest in Poland and Eastern Europe. He was a vocal sympathizer with the Solidarity movement, manifesting his support by co-founding the Food for Poland program. Later, when the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was established in Poland, Eugene and his wife Charlotte prefigured the work of the Foundation by sponsoring the BYU educations of young Polish students, along with students of many other nations, even hosting the students at their home. Because of this dedication to Poland and because of his exemplary record of scholarly and personal achievement, the Young Poland Foundation is privileged to be able to name a scholarship in Eugene England?s honor. top home |

How is fundraising carried out? As per the articles and bylaws of the Foundation, its Board of Directors may act as a fundraising committee, or may organize and oversee a committee composed of volunteers. The individual members of the board will be involved in solicitation of donations directly, and will also train volunteers, empowering them to solicit donations on behalf of the Foundation. Contributions will be solicited directly, over the Internet, and by selective mailing. top home |
